Rasmussen University Career Roadmap helps job seekers identify what factors can lead to a satisfying and successful career path

CHICAGO, Ill. (May 19, 2014)—The value of a college education has recently been under fire due to high tuition costs and poor job outcomes. Now, it’s more important than ever for people to make the right college investment, which involves identifying a clear career path upfront and aligning it with the education needed to successfully meet their career goals. To help job seekers find the perfect career, Collegis Education in partnership with Distilled, a creative online marketing agency, created a career roadmap on behalf of Rasmussen University. The free interactive online resource is designed to help people outline a career path right for them based on a number of factors including skills, interests and experience.

“At Collegis Education, we know combining your skill set and passion with an opportunity in a growing industry leads to a satisfying career,” said Josh Braaten, director of inbound marketing at Collegis Education. “Surprisingly, when we started working on this project, we found few resources that help people do that. That’s why we wanted to help Rasmussen University develop a comprehensive resource that acknowledges all of the aspects people look for in a career.”

To provide insight into the factors people look for in a career, Distilled developed a survey on behalf of Rasmussen University that looked at how happy Americans are at work. Results showed almost one in five of the 2,000 U.S. adults surveyed said they are dissatisfied with their job, partially because they had no room to grow. Other factors included salary, feeling unfulfilled, too stressed at work or not using their education or skills.

“When we’re younger, we tend to focus on salary and a narrow range of criteria when assessing potential careers,” said Mark Johnstone, lead of creative at Distilled. “After a few years of working, you realize there are lots of other factors that can really impact job satisfaction and personal growth. Choosing a career is a nuanced decision, so we wanted to help create a resource that introduced job seekers to a wider set of factors to help them make wiser career choices.”

Rasmussen University, a regionally accredited private college, specializes in high-demand educational programs. To learn more about the Rasmussen University Career Roadmap, visit http://www.rasmussen.edu/career-center/career-research-hub/what-career-is-right-for-me/.
