Collegis Education Makes IPEDS Data Easy to Analyze for Google BigQuery Users

Higher ed researchers, policymakers, funders, and marketers can now seamlessly use IPEDS data, that’s integrated with BigQuery, to drive continuous improvement at their institutions

OAK BROOK, IL (May 28, 2024) — Collegis Education announced today the publication of its first public data listing to Google’s Analytics Hub data marketplace, making IPEDS (Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System) data freely available to Google BigQuery users. Now higher ed institutional research and analytics teams can more easily access thousands of data files to inform continuous improvement across their institutions, better serve students, and more reliably forecast future growth.

“Collegis’s commitment is to enabling higher ed’s ability to use data to understand engagement, drive decision-making, and inform strategy to meet the needs of institutions,” said Bryan Chitwood, PhD, director of data enablement. “By leveraging our partnership with Google to onboard the raw IPEDS data into BigQuery, we’ve made it easier to extract, manipulate, and analyze that data with myriad benefits for colleges and universities.”

Seamlessly integrated with BigQuery, the Collegis listing includes a wealth of data for the higher ed community. Using familiar SQL queries and access tools within the Google Cloud platform, users can explore institutional-level details on more than 7,000 colleges and universities across various categories, including enrollment, finances, academic staffing, and facilities. The data spans back to the 2004-05 collection year, allowing users to analyze trends over 20 years.

Access to this data in a familiar environment will provide valuable insights for a variety of higher ed leaders:

  • Researchers who look at higher ed can use the data to conduct studies on higher ed trends, demographics, and outcomes.
  • Educators and policymakers can use the information to inform strategic decisions and resource allocation.
  • Funders and investors can analyze the financial health and performance of institutions they may be working with.
  • Software developers can use it to build data-driven applications and visualizations for the education sector.
  • And in today’s highly competitive admissions environment, market and recruitment professionals can leverage the data to target specific student populations and understand institutional offerings.

This announcement builds on Collegis’s long experience helping institutions leverage available data – either internal or external – to discover actionable insights for building sustainable program strategies. Learn more about Collegis’s data centralization and enablement services
